Celina is located near the center of Clay County, situated in a valley created by the joining of the Cumberland River and the Obey River. Dale Hollow Lake, which lies along the Obey River just east of Celina, consists of 52,000 continuous acres. The city of Celina was founded in the 19th century and named after the daughter of local pioneer entrepreneur and educator, Moses Fisk. In the late 19th century, the city prospered as a logging town, receiving logs that had been cut in the forests to the east and floated down the Obey River. Tennessee State Route 52 passes through Celina, connecting it with Red Boiling Springs, Lafayette, and Livingston. Tennessee State Route 53, which intersects Tennessee State Route 52 in the southern part of Celina, runs down the Cumberland River to Gainesboro and the Kentucky border where it continues on to Burkesville.
